The Point. Market development and design planning. I was asked by founder Andrew Mason to help him develop campaigns, but within a week or two I had convinced our investors that we should branch out and hire 20 copywriters to do that work. The development team spent many hours at whiteboards trying to solve how to explain the seed of our concept in a simple way, both verbally and graphically, so that users would get the big idea. I don't think we ever succeeded, but we did learn that the precise packaging of an idea can be crucial to its success. Andrew is now working on Groupon, which grew conceptually out of the very deep thought and passion that went into The Point.
